Desk brief

SpaceX is set to publish its first quarterly results as a listed company after the market closes on Tuesday, August 4, placing fresh focus on whether operating performance can stabilize a sharply weaker share price. The company priced its June 12 initial public offering at $135 a share, while the stock later reached about $225 before retreating below the offer price.

Shares closed at approximately $114.46 on Monday, August 3, leaving them roughly 15% below the IPO price and nearly half below the June peak. Investors are expected to scrutinize losses, Starlink growth, launch activity, artificial-intelligence spending and management’s outlook for capital expenditure.

The earnings release also coincides with an important supply risk: employee and early-investor lockups are scheduled to begin expiring shortly afterward. That could increase available trading volume and make the market’s reaction to the results more volatile, particularly if the company offers limited visibility on profitability or future cash needs.

The discount reflects Korea’s governance gap and the cyclical risks surrounding memory chips, while investors remain divided over whether AI demand represents a structural shift or an extended industry cycle.
